We are very proud of one of our past pupils, Michelle Butler, who was presented with the Gold Gaisce Award by President Michael D Higgins at a ceremony in Dublin Castle on Tuesday 6th December 2016.
Michelle, who was a student at the Institute for 5th and 6th year, completed 100km of the Camino de Santiago in Spain as part of her adventure challenge. Other activities along the way included cycling and completing a lifesaving course organised by the school.
Michelle was one of 65 young people from across the State who were presented with the Gold Award this year. The Gold Award is the highest level of the Gaisce Award, which aims to foster young people’s potential by encouraging them to set goals in a number of areas and then achieve them. The recipients of the award successfully complete five challenges over a year including community volunteering, development of a personal skill and participation in a physical activity.
