Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Competition 2017

Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Competition 2017

September 29th – October 1st marks this years Patrick Kavanagh Weekend, an annual celebration of one of Ireland’s most renowned poets in his home town of Iniskeen, Monaghan.

We’re delighted to be sponsoring the main event of the festivities – The Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award, which recognises emerging Irish poets.

Now in it’s 46th year, previous recipients of the award include esteemed creatives such as Eileán Ni Chuilleanáin, Paul Durcan, Thomas McCarthy, Peter Sirr, Sinead Morrissey, Conor O’Callaghan, Celia de Freine and Joseph Woods.

The winner of this year’s award will receive €1,000, and the closing date for entries is Friday 28th July 2017. You can find out more about how to enter here.

We’d also like to encourage our school’s budding poets to enter the ‘Student Poetry Award’, which acknowledges the work of second level students across the country. Download the rules and entry form here.

Best of luck to all entrants!
