4th Year at The institute of Education

4th year in The Institute of Education’s offers students a unique alternative to Transition Year. Combining academic focus and personal development, this three year Leaving Certificate programme allows pupils to:

  • Get a head start on the Leaving Certificate syllabus by establishing a solid foundation in key subjects such as Maths and English before going on to tackle the fuller syllabus in 5th and 6th Year.
  • Sample a wide variety of Leaving Certificate subjects throughout the year. With a total of 25 subjects available at the Institute, students can experiment with different subjects, selecting a total of four each term. Towards the end of the academic year a dedicated career guidance counsellor can then assist students and parents in selecting the appropriate subjects for senior cycle.

Personal development is also central to the 4th year programme. Students take part in a wide range of activities throughout the year, including debating, MUN, creative writing, philosophy, drama, ECDL, fundraising, Student Enterprise Awards, and more.

The school’s Health & Fitness Director, International athlete Brian Gregan, co-ordinates the sports programme and students are encouraged to participate in a wide range of sporting activities throughout the year.
