Green Schools Initiative

Green Schools Initiative

4th year students from the Institute visited the Cool Planet Experience in Co. Wicklow recently as part of their Green Initiative Module.

The Institute of Education has started the process of working towards becoming a Green School.

The Green-Schools project is a national initiative that seeks to create greener and more environmentally safe schools by developing and fostering environmental awareness among students.

The aim of the programme is to educate pupils, teachers and parents on environmental issues, increasing their awareness of difficulties and problems and encouraging them to become active participants in the solutions to these problems.

Working together on the first theme of ‘Litter and Waste’, pupils and staff in the Institute are currently forming a Green School Committee and conducting an environmental review of the school. The next step will be to develop an action plan to implement measurable and achievable goals.

We’ll be giving updates on our progress over the next few months as we work together to ensure an eco-friendly environment for our school and the wider community.
